Thursday 9th January 2020 - Comedy Night

It's time for a new decade! Here's our line up for January!

JIMMY MCGHIE ...was an Assistant Producer for the BBC’s Science and History Dept, having spent seven years working in factual television before he ran off to join the stand up comedy circus professionally in 2009. Since then he has performed stand up all over the world and appeared on numerous television and radio programmes including the BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5, Comedy Central, ABC Australia, THREE New Zealand, Absolute Radio and many more.
He is “a brilliant talent” (The Scotsman) and with “an easy charm and appealing relaxed manner” (Chortle), he has performed 10 solo shows at festivals around the world including the Edinburgh Fringe, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Adelaide Fringe, Sydney Comedy Festival, Perth Comedy Festival and New Zealand International Comedy festival.
He is now a top circuit act in the UK, as well as a highly sought after corporate awards host and TV warm up artist. He regularly provides the studio warm up for BBC1’s Graham Norton Show, ITV’s Loose Women and Ch4’s Deal or No Deal. “Exquisitely done, with a compelling, simmering fury… impressive”
chortle.co.uk

PATRICK SPICER ...is a stand-up comedian quickly making a name for himself with a distinctively playful, relaxed stage presence and offbeat, personal writing. He is a regular at top London comedy clubs, was nominated for Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year 2018, and was a finalist of the Amused Moose New Comic Award 2019. In 2019 he took his first show "Now I've Seen Anything" to Edinburgh (45 minutes), and is currently working on his debut hour.

CAROLINE MABEY ...One of the most inventive comic voices in Britain, Caroline Mabey is a fringe and circuit favourite, appearing at festivals, theatres and clubs all around the country. Silly, warm and sharp as hell, she always creates a gag-packed frenzy of fun. She is a brilliant and accomplished MC, having been resident compere at the 99 Club for ten years. 'Mabey is thoroughly enjoyable company…the slightly deranged offspring of a menage a trois between Vic Reeves, Harry Hill and Floella Benjamin'
Evening Standard 'A mischievous, kooky talent'  Time Out. Caroline has recently appeared on Comedy Central as part of their Performance Anxiety campaign, and in Before the Morning After on NBC's Digital Comedy Channel, Seeso. She also features in Josh Howie's Losing It (Series 1 and 2) on BBC Radio 4 and has written for Radio 4's News Quiz.

DamoSuzuki202002bweb

Dictionary Pudding - Live music promotions present: -

A genuinely unique talent, Damo Suzuki found fame after krautrock legends CAN found him busking in the streets of 70s Cologne. Immediately drafting him in to replace Malcolm Mooney, the band, oft-considered one of the single greatest outfits in western musical history went on to record a plethora of seminal LPs, including TAGO MAGO and EGE BAMYASI.

Damo Suzuki's never-ending tour here stops off at Lewes Con Club, where he will perform an instant-composition set with the amazing Krautrock torch-carriers, ZOFFF. Suzuki's synthetic language creates an absolutely astonishing performance, his voice remains a beautiful philosopher's stone, the alchemical jigsaw piece of the krautrock puzzle.

Sunday 16th February 2020 - Martin Carthy

carthy FB

Dictionary Pudding - Live music promotions present: Martin Carthy

For more than 50 years Martin Carthy has been one of folk music's greatest innovators, one of its best loved, most enthusiastic and, at times, most quietly controversial of figures. His skill, stage presence and natural charm have won him many admirers, not only from within the folk scene, but also far beyond it.

He's a ballad singer, a ground-breaking acoustic and electric-guitarist and an authoritative interpreter of newly composed material. He always prefers to follow an insatiable musical curiosity rather than cash in on his unrivalled position. Perhaps, most significant of all, are his settings of traditional songs with guitar, which have influenced a generation of artists, including Bob Dylan and Paul Simon, on both sides of the Atlantic.

`Arguably the greatest English folk song performer, writer, collector and editor of them all' Q Magazine

Saturday 22nd February 2020 - The Original John Rossall Glitter Band

Glitter2020

Black Rabbit Productions & TLF Presents: The Original John Rossall Glitter Band

The Glitter Band were without doubt one of the most popular and influential exponents of the 1970’s Glam Rock phenomena. Formed by John Rossall in 1972 from the embers of the highly successful Boston International, the Glitter Band released their debut single “Angel Face” on Bell Records in April 1974, reaching number 4 in the UK Charts. Further singles followed with “Just For You” (number 10) and “Let’s Get Together Again” (number 8) the same year, leading to the release of “Hey!”, the definitive Glitter Band and Glam Rock album. The band’s biggest hit, “Goodbye My Love” made the UK number 2 position early in 1975. All of these huge Glitter Band hits are John Rossall compositions.

Leaving the band for a Solo career in 1975, John Rossall released a number of solo singles before relocating to Sweden, where he enjoyed considerable success. Returning to the UK in the early 90s with a new band line up, John quickly established himself as a major attraction on the European revival circuit and has toured continually ever since, performing alongside some of the biggest names of the Glam Rock era. 2019 marks the 45th Anniversary of “Angel Face”, “Just For You” and “Let’s Get Together Again”. The Original John Rossall Glitter Band features founder member John Rossall on lead vocals, Bob Bradbury on Guitar, Dave Glover on Bass, Corrie Shiells on Sax and Jake Bradbury on Drums.

Saturday 29th February 2020 - Mad Professor

MadProfessor2020

Global Beats Presents: Mad Professor Live Dub Show. Support by Sir Coxsone Outernational Sound with Lloyd Coxsone

He might be called MAD PROFESSOR, but he is one of the sanest working musicians around. In his long and accomplished career, this globally acclaimed dub talent has amassed a fine discography that includes many cult albums. He has also worked with the likes of Johnny Clarke and Mikey Dread, Reggae Regular and Ruts DC, all of whom are legends in their own right. Right back in the 80s did Mad Professor build his own first mixing desk and he soon began working with the Ariwa Studio and label on a 12 part album series Dub Me Crazy. With new instalments coming each year, they helped establish the Londoner as a real master of the mix, of echo and reverb, of spacious rhythms and dub attitude.

His crazy use of sound effects and clarity of mixing won him many fans and plaudits, and remixes of acts like The Orb, Beats International, Sade and 400 Blows all followed. And of course so did live shows, which took the Mad Professor to high profile gigs all over North America, Europe, Japan and many places in between. High profile remix work on Massive Attack’s seminal Protection album helped elevate him yet further, and the new century brought with it many more big releases for his Ariwa label, which eventually went on to distribute more than 200 releases in all. Still in demand for shows and studio work, Mad Professor plays cult events like Unsound and Outlook Festival in Croatia and works with the likes of Lee Scratch Perry, U Roy, BigYouth and many more on his ever excellent label.

The legendary UK soundman & record producer, LLOYD COXSONE, began his career in the sixties, soon after arriving from Jamaica. He was one of the first soundmen to play at West End clubs like Tiles and the Roaring Twenties, where a generation of British pop stars like the Beatles, Rolling Stones and Elton John first heard the music of Jamaica. Coxsone then dominated the seventies, when Bob Marley and Dennis Brown were among his closest allies, as heard on unforgettable dub-plates from that era. Lloyd is an elder statesman with more than fifty years’ history behind him, but he knows there’s still a place in the music for those who are young at heart and willing to embrace change.
